Mobility-Impaired Access Study

South Central, in common with all Train Operating Companies, is looking to improve facilities for mobility-impaired people. This is both for legal reasons, and to capture the revenue benefits of improving station and train access.
Following a request for facilities information from the SRA, the Consultancy was commissioned to survey all 160+ of South Central's stations, to assess likely compliance with the requirements of part III of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, which comes into force from October 2004.
All stations were surveyed in person, and details of disabled facilities were recorded. The results were compiled into a spreadsheet and a list of 'quick fixes' was produced, identifying suggested cost-effective improvements to disabled access.
Using the results of the survey, the Consultancy produced a number of draft public documents, outlining South Central's facilities for disabled people and other mobility-impaired passengers. Whilst responsibility for the graphic design of documents remained with the TOC, the consultancy provided suggestions as to the presentation of information, as well as ensuring factual accuracy.
In addition to the draft public documents produced, facilities information was compiled in various formats for use by TOC staff, ATOC, NRES, SRA etc.
